HACKER SPACE [hækər speɪs]
Hacker [hækər]
We are hackers in the hobbyist sense of the word. We are hacker artists, using technology as an artistic medium and we are hardware hackers, modifying electronic hardware with the intent to extend, improve, or otherwise understand the original hardware design. We strive to be a community of builders, makers, and traders rather than rushing off to the store when we need something.
Space [speɪs]
10BitWorks is a non-profit, membership-supported project space and learning center known as a hackerspace. 10BitWorks Hackerspace in San Antonio, Texas is a 501(c)3 non-profit garage-lab environment where hobbyists get together to make their own creations whether practical, experimental, or silly. Hackerspaces pride themselves on obtaining equipment that you just won’t be able to house yourself in a small apartment or in a sprawling HOA-controlled suburban home. Our diverse membership consists of: radio operators, video and board game designers, machinists, programmers, NASA engineers, embedded systems engineers, and college students.
Non-profit Status
Since October 2011, 10BitWorks has been recognized in the State of Texas as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. 10BitWorks was formed exclusively for educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) specifically in the instruction of the public on subjects useful to idividuals and beneficial to the community. The Organization exists as a shared space offering tools and collaborative opportunites in the domains of engineering, science, design, and art. The activities of the Organization will consist of: Providing access to otherwise inaccessible resources such as tools of the electronics and computer science fields; Mentoring and training in the use of these tools; Promoting applications of the engineering, science, design, and art domains towards the benefit of the local community.
