Hi all,

I fixed a couple things with our dokuwiki installation.

We're using keeyai authentication to integrate with wordpress but it has a problem with wordpress magic quotes. From comments on keeyai's site I could see others were having the same problem. WordPress was applying a filter with magic quotes to escape single and double quotes in get, post, and cookie values. So everytime you saved edits to a wiki page, quotes were being escaped and saved as such in the dokuwiki text-based datastore. From the comments on keeyai's site, I read that the fix is to only apply the magic quotes if the dokuwiki cookie is not present in the request. So I did that in the wordpress files. It will need to be re-applied whenever we update wordpress. I should just make our own repo of wordpress source code so we can manage these changes properly (we've also got a wordpress plugin that we've been slowly collecting our wordpress tweeks in). Maybe I'll do that sometime next week.

Additionally, I removed the CAPTCHA requirement for logged in users on the wiki. So you shouldn't have to enter one everytime you edit a page anymore. As always, the pages are public but you must be logged to edit pages.

Over the past year or so i've tried to make an effort to reduce my spending and live a simple lifestyle. I haven't used my credit card(s) in over 4 years. Usually the urge to buy and consume does win out in the end but at least if i do buy something i make sure it is multi-purpose and will not be a one-and-done use. Over these past few years i've read many articles and books and have used them as guides or motivation to use creation to satisfy my needs and forsake (most) of my wants. I try to buy the same minimal groceries and make different meals out of them and netflix helped me along time ago to learn to live without every DVD in existence. Before the hackerspace i had joined a primitive skills group taught by sam coffman here in SATX and still am active in it, learning about the old ways of doing things and getting in a bit of exercise in the process. But now the hackerspace is, for me, that modern counterpart to doing more with less and gaining access to rather than owning all the wonderful, although cluttery, things the hackerspace offers.

This Saturday is Stamp Out Hunger day. You may have received a grocery
bag in your mailbox this week. Fill it with food and leave for your
mailman on Saturday morning. Also, we’ve made some calls and
10BitWorks should be getting a mailbox of our own soon, yay!
