Remembering Matthew Aycock

Matthew Aycock was a first memory for a lot of us here at 10Bit. He gave tours, was a constant presence in the woodworking area, and helped a great many of us learn the skills we needed to work on our projects. I met Matt almost two years ago and when I expressed interest in setting up an electronics station, Matt jumped on board to help. Over the next year, coming out of COVID, Matt cleared away a lot of the debris that had build up in our woodworking area, put most of the bench-top tools on rolling carts so that members would have more project space, and put together work benches.

Matt was an active member of our board and responsible for a lot of the improvements we’ve seen at the space this last year. In fact, in our last week together, Matt and I spent a lot of time updating the bylaws for 10Bit. Dull work, but necessary to pave the way for progress! I like to think that Matt was able to write himself into our constitution and that his presence will be felt for years to come.

Thanks to the generosity of Matt’s friends and family we are able to set up a Maker’s Grant to honor Matt’s memory. Thus far, we have enough funding to support the grant for six years. If you feel led to donate, please use the link below. All donations in the month of February will be applied to the Matthew Aycock Maker’s Grant - after the month of February please use the text field to indicate that you are contributing to Matthew’s grant.
